Triple Get: Get Ready

Every Christian is either a missionary or an imposter

C. H. Spurgeon

Take a moment and let that sink in. Before going any further, take a piece of paper and write down your first reaction as well as your reason for reacting in that way.

It all boils down to what your perspective of a missionary is, this exact confusion regarding the term is what causes many people to shy away from being a missionary and therefore not fulfilling God’s commandments. Therefore, most people are never ready to evangelize. You see the thing is not that you have to go to some far away country or go live in the middle of nowhere, but spread the Word. Go to strangers and randomly start telling them how amazing God is, remember the Great Commission. The Great Commission was given unto all Christians, therefore it is your responsibility to start applying it into your life.

There are 3 basic requirements for anyone to be a missionary:

  1. You must be filled with the Holy Spirit ( The exact way how that happens and when it happens will be explained at a later stage)

Acts 4:8

Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,

Acts 4:31

And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

That boldness by which Peter spoke is what is lacking in most Christian’s lives today, they try to speak with knowledge or charisma, but if you lack the boldness provided by the Holy Spirit it will mostly be in vain.

Galatians 5:22-23

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

What is evangelism without these characteristics? Firstly, we need love for the lost to have a desire to see everyone saved by the grace that has saved you. We need to be filled with joy and peace so that the people will desire such a relationship with a God that tales care of His people in such an extraordinary way. We have to evangelize with gentleness, meekness, temperance and a constant manner of longsuffering in order to be approachable by the people in need. Faith is of course crucial, for what would evangelizing benefit if there was no faith to believe in God?

John 14:26

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

The Holy Spirit will lead you into the direction that you need to go and will equip you with everything you need.

Galatians 5:16

This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

Remember, you did the “Get Up” part, but the Holy Spirit will help you to stay up and resist the onslaughts from the enemy.

2. You must be grounded in “Sound Doctrine”

The conviction and beliefs you have, as well as the amount of truth in your teaching, is usually what you transfer to the people that turn to the Lord while you are leading them. the passion you have for the Truth and for the Lord is usually transferred to the people looking up to you, as well as the false teachings you could possibly believe. So it is extremely important to be grounded in the Word and to not err from the complete truth.

2 Timothy 4:3-5

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

2 Timothy 2:15

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

3. Pray and Fast

Acts 13:2-4

As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them. And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away. So they, being sent forth by the Holy Ghost, departed unto Seleucia; and from thence they sailed to Cyprus.

With this you can go out boldly and make a difference.
