Trust God for the Victory

In the past there were probably attempts of comfort through words like, “The Lord will fight for you, you need to be still.” Exodus 14:14. What does it really mean in my life? As this is Old Testament scripture, does it have relevance on me? How can I apply it in my life?

These words are the following in the KJV “ye shall hold your peace” and not “you need to be still.” When you search in the Strong’s Concordance you will see that the word “peace” which is “still” in the other translations means cease, conceal, be deaf, imagine, leave speaking, hold peace, be quiet, rest, practise secretly, keep silence, speak not a word, hold tongue. In Hebrew it is “chârash”. According to this it means
to be calm and to be quiet, not to speak and trust God. Theologians use Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God” in correlation with Exodus 14:14. The word “still” in this scripture is “râphâh” in Hebrew and it means to be faint, be feeble. It actually portrays a message of frailty and weakness, to surrender and give over to God, to crucify yourself and to let God. He is our Saviour, deliverance in times of trouble, we need to trust Him and give Him full authority in every aspect of our lives.

The problem is we want to do it our way, we want to fight on our terms, we want to be in control of our lives’ reins. This Attitude unknowingly desecrates our reverence for our Lord. A Godly man has Godly fear and complete dependence upon God.

Nahum 1:17
The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in Him. So many times we fear people and circumstances instead of having peace and standing strong.

2 Chronicles 20:15
And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s. To morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel. Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.

Did they literally have to stand completely still? No, they had to go against them, they physically had to get up and go to the place of war. Do you see how much faith that took of them? If God did not come through for them they all would’ve been slaughtered, yet they trusted God and went to meet the enemy. You see people tend to take this scripture and deduce that we do not need to do anything as God will provide, but the context shows us the enormous faith we must place in God, and then be able to not take the situation in our hands, stand back and TRUST. When we put our Faith in God, and allow Him to be in control, we must “be still” and “see the salvation of the Lord”. Logically in worldy terms this is reasoning that leads to death – but we say Faith!

2 Corinthians 5:7
(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)

2 Timothy 4:18
And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

James 1:12
Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

We must remember that we are living in the New Testament and our war is solely spiritual of nature (Ephesians 6). Jesus already has the victory, we must have faith, surrender our lives to Him and see the salvation of the Lord.

2 Timothy 3:12
Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

In our lives as Christians we will suffer persecution in all areas of our lives, because satan doesn’t want us to finish the race, through suffering persecution we become stronger, purer, a vessel to be used by God. In 2 Timothy 3:14-15 we are encouraged to continue in the things we learned and to know the scriptures that will give us wisdom unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

Romans 15:4
For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

Isaiah 54:17
No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD. Our battles today is spiritual, it’s against the principalities, powers, rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places and that is why we wear the armour of God. Thus making us warriors in the Kingdom of God, fighting that all may receive salvation and that those in Christ will keep standing strong.

In conclusion God will help you in your battles, He will give you a way out. We must trust and have faith in our Father who are in heaven. To be still is to stand firm, know that God is for you, not against you. The power of your words and actions are irrelevant in the presence of God and in battle, so be still and allow Him to take the reins. God hears our every word, sees our every action and knows the intentions of our hearts. Jesus hears every prayer and intercede for us.

The power of your words and actions are irrelevant in the presence of God and in battle, so be still and allow Him to take the reins

I Corinthians 15:58
“Therefore, my beloved brethren, by ye steadfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, for as much as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”

“For ye shall not go out with haste, nor go by flight: for the Lord will go before you, and the God of Israel will be your reward.”

Don’t react impulsively, don’t fear and run, wait on God for your next move.
He knows better.
