Upon What Does Your Identification Find It’s Support?

A bluntly mediocre question I want to pose is:

Who are you?

No, I mean who are you REALLY?

Your name and surname (or your twelve other middle names) will not suffice to answer this question. You need to start thinking deep. Remember, you are currently alone, probably reading this silently to yourself so don’t try to give the pleasing answer. Be honest with yourself. If you need to describe yourself to someone else, what would you say? What would stand out? Is it good, bad or meaningless? The next question that I want you to ponder upon is:

If you examine your life, upon what are you proud?

With this you can answer literally anything, it can be the sport in which you excel, or the successful art exhibition that you have just completed, or even a new language that you are learning. Yet, not to deter the attention completely away from the spiritual, it can also be a person that you are helping to know the Lord better (discipling) or a sermon that you have given. Think about it – and give yourself a definitive answer. The next Question is:

If you would ever want to impress someone, what would you tell them about yourself?

This could be exactly the same answer as the above mentioned question, but it could also be different (That could all be dependent upon which of the four men you are living as – see attached article)

The Four Men: Make Your Choice

The last direct question I want to ask is:

If people would talk about you behind your back, as what would you be known?

The joker of the group, or the pessimist, the intelligent one, or as good for nothing, maybe even as the friendly one. Most of the times we know what people think about us and other times we are oblivious of their opinions, either way, today we need to realize something about our identity as well as other’s opinions that will change our lives. Keep all the questions as well as answers in your thoughts for later.

Now, consider your life, all that has happened in the past, who your friends and acquaintances are, what are your hobbies, what is your relationship with your parents or children etc. We can unanimously agree that in worldly terms our identity (who we really are) are formed by what life we live and what it consists of.

You become what you embrace!

Truth Focus

To get to the point of disillusioned identity we first needed to clarify what forms our identity and how to see where we stand, hence all the questions.

Most people have a lack of confidence in some area of their lives, some more than others, but usually it can be well hidden to be socially acceptable. Others struggle with that and need help to cope. Some people have had it so bad that anyone will understand why their lives are ruined. We are constantly working with children in the schools and trying to equip them to survive this harsh world. To show them a better way and that way is Jesus! Their lives are in such a mess, and it’s usually not even their fault. Parent’s are divorced in such horrible conditions, alcoholism, drugs, abuse, rape etc. It’s more than hectic, it’s more than any child should experience. All these things contribute to the lost image of “Who You Are!”.

They don’t know, because many times they don’t even want to be associated with the same surname as their father or mother. These children grow up and become us! what generation is being raised? A lost, wandering generation looking for answers in all the wrong places and going further down the road of destruction.

This is one vicious cycle that will keep repeating itself until we realize who we can be in Christ. Until the people stretch out their hands to the only One that can change their situations.

I have summarized five points to help you help yourself or someone else:

  1. Realize and admit that there is a problem in your life.

Psalms 55:22

Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

Only when you realize there is a problem and actually admit it then you can give it first of all to the Lord and ask Him to guide you to the point of healing. It is not a quick fix, but as soon as you have given it to the Lord you allow Him to show you the way.

2. If you feel that you only get it right to get nothing right, then listen up:

Philippians 4:13

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Don’t think that you can do anything or try to do anything without the help of the Lord. When attempting things alone you will win some and lose some, but when attempting any feat through Christ it will always work out according to the will of the Lord, and what better outcome can one have. Can you see how the pressure that asks performance of you is completely removed?

3. If you feel that no one cares about you or looks out for you – pay close attention:

Hebrews 13:5

Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

Hebrews 13:8

Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

God will never forsake you even if the whole world disappoints you. Over and above that, He is always the same, meaning all the miracles and provision that happened in the Bible can happen to you too.

4. Now what?

Examine yourself to see if their is any hindrance in your relationship with the Lord. So in other words repent of any unconfessed sins in your life and come clean in front of the Lord.

2 Corinthians 13:5

Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

Then you must align your will and life with the Lord. Let His words abide in you and let Him transform you by the renewing of your mind.

James 4:7

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

5. Identify the real enemy

this is extremely important to be able to stay standing in your walk with God. You need to realize that the friends that are spewing venomous words or the colleagues that laugh you off, or your parents that always see the wrong in you are not the real enemy. The devil uses cunningly, deceptive strategies to throw us off course. Our anger gets vented at the people doing the injustice instead of defying the cause of the injustice – satan.

Ephesians 6:12

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

We must put on the armour of God and fight the intentions of the devil and the thoughts he places in our mids to break down our identity.

We are Children of God!

So if I ask you, who you are. You tell me “I am a child of God and my name is ……………. and my surname is ………………..” that is your identity in Christ Jesus.

Galatians 3:26

For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

Galatians 4:7

Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

John 1:12

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

There are many more scripture that testify about this truth. We are children of God through faith. Stand upon that identity. Do not let your identity try and stand without this foundation.
